AMPT Biking
Adaptive mountain biking. Community on the trail.
AMPT Biking Outreach is an adaptive mountain biking program serving amputees and adaptive riders in Central Kentucky. The program offers supported group rides, skills development opportunities, and community gatherings designed around access, safety, and participation.
AMPT Biking is not a competitive or clinical program. Its focus is on shared trail time, adaptive equipment use, and creating a welcoming riding community where riders of varying experience levels can show up as they are and ride together.
Why AMPT Biking Exists. Mountain biking offers more than physical movement—it creates connection, problem-solving, and a sense of belonging. For many amputees and adaptive riders, access to those experiences can be limited or isolating.
AMPT Biking exists to change that. The program was created to reduce barriers, build community, and make trail riding a shared experience rather than a solitary one. By bringing riders together in supportive, inclusive settings, AMPT Biking helps participants build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging outdoors.
Trails are for everyone—and riding together matters.

Meet AMPT Biking’s Program Director
Matthew Beall is a mountain biker and below-knee amputee who founded AMPT Biking Outreach (often called AMPT Biking) to encourage and support amputees and adaptive riders through mountain biking. Born with a congenital limb difference, Matthew grew up navigating life with one leg—an experience that shaped his perspective on resilience, community, and access to outdoor activity.
After riding bikes as a kid, Matthew returned to mountain biking in adulthood as a way to reconnect with movement and the outdoors. Through his own experiences with surgeries, chronic pain, and the mental health challenges many amputees face, he saw the need for spaces where adaptive riders could show up as they are, ride together, and feel supported. AMPT Biking grew from that vision—creating opportunities for connection, confidence, and shared trail experiences.
